Goal
The Formula Student competition was founded in 1981 in the USA by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This academic engineering competition has been taking place in Europe since 1999. The vehicles are split into three categories: combustion engines, electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles. Points can be awarded in various disciplines, and the team with the best overall concept wins.
The aim of this competition is to get students involved with practical work during their studies and to research future-oriented technologies. The different concepts from around the world are to be presented and tried out at competitions.
Worldwide
The Formula Student competition is already held all over the world. Several hundred teams construct their own vehicles and compete in competitions around the globe. Currently, 17 Formula Student competitions are held annually.
Disciplines
The Formula Student competition is divided into different disciplines. Points are won in static and dynamic events. The team with the most points overall wins the competition.
